Pair of 19th century French Louis XIV style fauteuils or armchairs handcrafted of old growth French oak by talented artisans in Normandy, circa 1880s. Having high chapeau de gendarme upholstered backs and gracefully scrolling arms with carved acanthus plumes. The generous upholstered seats with nailhead trim rest on scrolled legs that also featured carved acanthus motifs and contoured "H" stretchers. A handsome addition to any room, the pair is very comfortable and sturdy, suitable for everyday use.
