An excellent deciduous tree, commonly known as Judas tree, for structure and long-term presence, prized for its autumn colour.
Growing to around 3m tall by 3m wide at 10 years. Happy in partial to light shade on most soils, and grows well in reasonably drained soil and is drought-tolerant once established. It produces purple flowers in spring, summer, with attractive purple bark and green fruits. Reliably hardy across most of the UK and the flowers are a good nectar source for bees. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
