The shin shape is one of the most popular styles of chasen, known for its elegant curves and versatility. With around 64 tines, it strikes a balance between the fine-tined usucha whisks and the thick-tined koicha types—making it suitable for both frothy usucha and thick koicha. Preferred by students of both Urasenke and Omotesenke schools, this style is a trusted choice for many.
Unlike mass-produced whisks, our Takayama chasen are entirely handmade—no machines, chemicals, or shortcuts. Crafted with care, they offer finer, more flexible tines and exceptional durability, making them a joy to use.
Care Tips:
Rinse with water after use and avoid soap. Let it air dry upright to prevent mold and maintain shape. For best results, use a kusenaoshi (whisk shaper) to preserve the curve of the tines.
Note: Each whisk is handmade from natural bamboo, so slight variations in size and appearance are to be expected.
