This stool is one of my very favorite Brimfield purchases, which photos just can't do justice--the color and patina on the bittersweet painted leather (over brown wool) surface is otherworldly. And the patina on the old brass studs forming this wonderful star at its center, too. Plus some old iron nails forming a sort of zig zag to one side of that star, repairing a tear to the leather very long ago--one can see a bit of the brown fabric showing through there.  With what I believe are its original faceted legs painted a dark red, tightly and sturdily attached, and more iron nails around the perimeter, which I presume once held a strip of some sort of trim. To my eye just completely gorgeous, and completely singular, I'd guess third quarter 19th century or so. Yum.

11 7/8" w x 8 1/2" d x 6 1/2" t. Plenty of wear and aging, but quite stable and sound, with the the painted leather well attached, crusty and not at all flaking or shedding. Stool is sturdy and sits flush and square.
