Patina! It is the fact of its battered surface, especially that creamy white, that makes this box for me--beautiful, and also rightly signifying that this kit came to the rescue more than a few times. And I do think the Canadian National Railways logo was pretty great to begin with, too. I believe this is a fairly early one, maybe 1920s or so

9 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 2 3/8". Plenty of wear all over including a bit of bending at the hinges but the cover is still very well attached and closes flush. More creamy white paint on the interior.
