Heriz rugs are fairly easy to recognize: they often feature a distinctive large rectangular medallion and large corner sections. Knotted in the city of Heris in the northwestern part of Iran, they are durable and hard-wearing and can last for many generations if cared for properly. This is partly due to the geographical proximity of Mount Sabalan, which sits on an important copper deposit. Traces of this copper can be found in the sheep's drinking water, resulting in a harder and more resilient wool quality than in other areas. The rugs are usually quite large and are ideal for larger spaces, both in offices and living spaces. Their dimensions and intricate medallion patterns are the perfect addition to open spaces.
