A large 19th century French vendange or wine tasting table handcrafted of solid walnut near Toulouse, having a three plank oval or elliptical shaped top with an ogee edge supported by arched sledge feet joined by a stretcher with center supports, circa 1890s. Rarely do we see a solid walnut wine table, especially one this size. Most French vendage tables were made to serve workers lunch in the vineyards and were then folded and stored in the barn when not in use. The fact that this one doesn't tilt for storage and is in such good condition, leads us to think it was only used inside the cellar of a chateau or winery for wine tastings. Popular with vintners for use in their wine caves with narrow aisles and beloved by both wine connoisseurs and novices alike, wine tasting tables are functional and very versatile pieces of furniture. The sledge feet allow the table to be strong and sturdy and easily support the table top. This one will be perfect for use as a dining table or tasting table in a wine cellar. Easily seats six. Chairs sold separately.
