A monumental French Louis Philippe period Lyonnais bibliothèque or bookcase handcrafted of solid walnut by skilled craftsman in Lyon, circa 1840s. The upper bookcase has a moulded cornice over the original hand blown glass paned locking doors and opens to reveal five adjustable interior shelves with an inside depth of 8.5 inches offering great opportunities to store books and various decorative objects. The lower cabinet, deeper in proportions, is made of two moulded panel doors that lock and conceal a single shelf with an inside depth of 15 inches.
The tailored architecture and elegant simplicity of the Louis Philippe period allows this handsome two-piece bookcase, with it's beautiful and original, rich patina and clean silhouette, to work with a wide variety of decors. The open display and closed storage is both functional and highly decorative. A truly impressive French bookcase that will bring a touch of elegance to any home, particularly in an office, library, or living room.
