Description:
The complete collection of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos by Fedorova is now complete, including "The Messenger" by her native master Silvestrov! Anna Fedorova, a native of Kieu, Ukraine, and winner of the Rubinstein International Piano Competition in 2009, has now released Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 3, which is performed internationally, especially in the Netherlands. Following the first release (CCS42620) with No. 1 and the "Paganini Rhapsody" and the second release (CCS42522/NYCX-10338) with Nos. 2 and 4, this is the complete set of Rachmaninoff's piano concertos. Also included are a symphonic section by the young Rachmaninoff and "The Messenger" by the Ukrainian master Silvestrov. As before, the orchestra will be co-conducted by Lithuanian conductor Modestas Pitrenas and the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra of Switzerland, of which he is the chief conductor. Fedorova, who is deeply saddened by the current situation in her homeland due to the Russian invasion, says, "Many people are now trying to refrain from performing Russian music, but it is important for me to perform Rachmaninoff. This is because the music is full of beauty, power, and emotion, and because he himself was a victim of the pressures of the Russian state," he says. Again, the orchestra sings beautifully and dynamically with the lyricism and power of the work, employing a relaxed tempo. Silvestrov's "Messenger" also exists in a version for strings and piano, but the version for solo piano is included here. Fedorova plays the piece with tenderness, and ends it as if she were praying.
