Description:
[Arnoncourt, who celebrated his 75th birthday in December 2004, conducted the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in a live recording of Verdi's "Requiem". This was Arnoncourt's first Verdi recording since "Aida" in 2001. As was the practice before Verdi's death, there was an intermission after "The Day of Wrath", and after the intermission, the chorus changed the placement of the voices to create a sound suitable for the double chorus of "Sanctus" in the second half. The strings are placed in opposite directions, and bass trombones with valves are used in the lower brass parts. The performance features solo singers with transparent voices such as May and Schade, and together with the exquisite singing of the A. Schoenberg Choir, they bring out a completely new image from the work, with a limpid and centripetal force. Extreme HiFi CD specification / Sound Master label specification.
