So this is Prince’s first and best double-album. It’s a lot better than Sign o’ the Times. Prince is at his creative peak here, blending genres and openly defying the boundaries of good taste. Sometimes he gets so wrapped up in the weird that he can’t see the light of day, but mostly his eccentricity is pretty cool. And if you can name me one album that sums up every side of Prince, good or bad, more efficiently than this one, let me know.
