Doe Derby Mission
The Cazenovia Doe Derby was created to encourage increased antlerless deer harvest and participation in CWD testing- both essential tools for managing healthy deer populations and slowing the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease. Reducing deer densities improves habitat health and limits the transmission of CWD the highly contagious, fatal disease, which can persist in the environment for years. Vigilant, community-driven management is critical.
The Doe Derby blends purpose with tradition: bonfires, shared meals, stories, and raffles bringing hunters together in a community-centered hunting experience grounded in stewardship, access, and education. Testing your deer for CWD- even if you plan to consume the meat—is a simple but vital step in safeguarding the future of hunting.
This land and its wildlife are not ours- they are simply entrusted to us for a time. Responsible harvest and disease management today will ensure that the hunting traditions we cherish remain strong for generations to come.
What is Sharing the Land?
Sixty percent of all land in the United States is privately owned, and in certain regions, up to 95% of wildlife habitat, hunting grounds, and foraging areas are privately held.
Recognizing a need to reconnect people with the land and with each other, Sharing the Land has designed a model to do just that. By connecting Landowners and Access Seekers through an exchange of services for access, STL is building long-term connections that will share and protect our natural resources.
