“This booklet is a guide to the identification of native and exotic grasses commonly found around Adelaide in South Australia.
Grasses are a key component in almost every ecosystem, and they are the dominant life form in some.  Grasslands, with or without scattered trees, were better developed where human cultures depended on the productivity of grasses for food, fibre, and pastures.  Scientists believe that grasslands have evolved with human activity, with fire and grazing as the principal management tools.
The distribution of grasses in this manual is listed for each species according to the botanical regions of the State.  Thirteen botanical regions have been adopted by the State Herbarium, which keeps an updated census of where each plant species has been found.”
