Mahogany Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass, exhibiting a vitreous luster and a Mohs hardness typically around 5 to 5.5. Its characteristic reddish-brown to mahogany hues are caused by the presence of iron oxide inclusions, often arranged in swirling or banded patterns that create its distinctive appearance. Unlike crystalline gems, obsidian is amorphous, lacking an ordered atomic structure and thus not displaying cleavage.
